12-10-21   THOUGHTS

Amos 8:11-13   "Behold, days are coming," declares the Lord GOD, "When I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, But rather for hearing the words of the LORD.  12  "People will stagger from sea to sea And from the north even to the east; They will go to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, But they will not find it.   "In that day the beautiful virgins And the young men will faint from thirst.
Are we fainting because of a famine of the words of the Lord?  It’s surely a problem in this time.
The text uses the words “and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”  Heb 10:25
Luke 1:53  "HE HAS FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS; And sent away the rich empty-handed.
There are 176 verses in the 119th Psalm.  They are arranged in sections after the Hebrew alphabet. Each section encourages the reader toward God’s word and direction for man.  Yesterday we talked about God “piloting” our souls.  Psalms 119 drills the source of that directive piloting into our minds.  David sees what we must see!  The intensity of his desire to know more of God, is described as “My soul is crushed with longing  After Your ordinances at all times.”    Jesus put it this way “ "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”  Matt 5:6   Don’t get too far from a reading of Psalm 119.  It awesomely RENEWS our FOCUS on the VALUE and JOY of the WORDS FROM GOD!

Ps 119:17-24   Gimel. Deal bountifully with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word. 18  Open my eyes, that I may behold Wonderful things from Your law. 19   I am a stranger in the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me. 20   My soul is crushed with longing After Your ordinances at all times. 21  You rebuke the arrogant, the cursed, Who wander from Your commandments. 22  Take away reproach and contempt from me, For I observe Your testimonies. 23  Even though princes sit and talk against me, Your servant meditates on Your statutes. 24  Your testimonies also are my delight; They are my counselors.
Ps 42:1  As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?   [song]
Ps 63:1   O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water.
John 6:27   "Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal."
Isa 55:3   "Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, According to the faithful mercies shown to David.

My Prayer:
O Lord cause our souls to be fixed on you.  May we desire your words more than our necessary food.  Each day, help us to reset our hearts,  that we might pursue you with appropriate diligence and intensity.  Help us to see a longing that drives us to what is good and right. Help us to hunger and thirst for you and for Jesus. Help our souls to yearn rightly.

In the name of Jesus     Amen
